Fear rushed through my body the moment my grandmother said those words. The air around us suddenly felt heavy, and the crying voices behind the house grew louder. I slowly stepped back while staring at her.
“What do you mean I wasn’t supposed to see her?” I asked with a shaking voice.
My grandmother’s face hardened. For a few seconds, she looked less like the woman who used to braid my hair during school holidays and more like a complete stranger.
“You ask too many questions,” she replied coldly. “Go home before darkness fully enters this place.”
At that moment, the lights of my car flickered on and off by themselves. A strong wind swept across the yard, making the trees bend violently. I knew staying there any longer was dangérous. Without another word, I rushed back into my car and drove away from the village as fast as I could.
But even after leaving, my mother’s face refused to leave my mind.
The next morning, I went straight to a famous church known for prophecy and spiritual déliverance. The building was already full of people praying, crying, and singing. The moment I entered, one of the women at the front suddenly pointed at me.
“You!” she shouted. “The spirit following you is crying for freedom!”
My legs nearly gave up beneath me.
The prophet invited me into a small room at the back of the church. Before I could explain anything, he began révealing secrets nobody else knew.
“Your mother did not find rest after death,” he said slowly. “Her spirit is trapped.”
Tears filled my eyes instantly.
He continued, “The old woman in the village is using spirits for power and protection. Your mother is not the only one there.”
A cold shiver ran down my spine.
I remembered the whispering voices behind the hut.
“There are many trapped souls working on that farm,” the prophet added sadly. “That land is cursed.”
I covered my mouth in shock.
“But why my mother?” I whispered.
The prophet looked at me carefully before answering.
“Your mother discovered your grandmother’s secret years ago. She wanted to expose her. That is why she died suddenly.”
I felt anger, heartbreak, and disbelief crashing inside me all at once. My own grandmother had stolen peace from her own daughter.
The prophet placed a hand gently on my shoulder.
“Do not fear,” he said. “Your mother can still be set free.”
That evening, the church elders gathered together to pray for my family. They told me the battle would not be easy because dark powers never release souls willingly. Still, they promised they would help me until my mother finally rested in peace.
As the prayers grew louder, I suddenly heard my mother’s voice softly whisper beside me.
“My child… don’t give up on me.”
